The Peas third studio album, Elephunk, is actually the first to feature Fergie. Originally released in 2003, it hit #14 on the Billboard 200. Elephunk eventually went on to be certified double platinum with 9 million sold worldwide. The album features the singles, Where Is The Love?, Shut Up and Lets Get It Started.

At the beginning of the album development, only will.i.am, apl.De.ap and Taboo were going to be featured. But during the production of Shut Up, they realized that a female vocal would work well with the song. Originally, Nicole Scherzinger (The Pussycat Dolls) was approached to make a guest appearance on the record, but was forced to decline because she already was signed to a contract with Edens Crush. Dant Santiago then introduced Fergie, who immediately formed a bond with the band and became a permanent member of the Peas.
