• With four of New York’s most brilliantly innovative talents (Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Richard Davis and Tony Williams) and five exciting, multi-faceted originals, Eric Dolphy made the greatest and most adventurous album of his career for Blue Note. Sadly, it was to be his last studio recording. He died four months later in Germany at the age of 36.
  A brilliant artist of startling originality, Dolphy managed to embody the revolutionary spirit of the avant-garde while remaining firmly grounded in the feel of swing – a rare feat that the five original tracks here capture perfectly, from the quirky swing of the opening Monk tribute “Hat and Beard” to the fast-paced closing track “Straight Up and Down.”
  This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition was mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
