Description
Concord, 1958
That was some great music we made at both those sessions and Im really proud of it today, Miles Davis wrote in 1989 about the sessions for Relaxin’. It opens with Davis in typically mercurial form as he tells the control room Ill play it and tell you what it is later before launching into a graceful take on If I Were a Bell. In that moment, a song from the hit 1950 musical Guys and Dolls was reborn as a jazz standard. Relaxin’ with the Miles Davis Quintet is one of the four albums that came out of the two legendary 1956 sessions held at the Rudy Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, NJ.
