• George Clinton’s activity knew no bounds and, contrary to the usual conventions of the music industry, by 1978 he had signed five bands to three different record labels. One of them consisted of three female backing singers from Parliament / Funkadelic, who worked under the name Parlet and whose debut single “Pleasure Principle” was released by Casablanca Records in March 1978.

  It was Clinton’s idea that two other backing singers, Lynn Mabry and Dawn Silva, became the Brides Of Funkenstein, a character he invented for Parliament’s 1976 LP “The Clones Of Dr Funkenstein”. Clinton got the Brides a contract with Atlantic Records and their first single was “Disco To Go”. The A-side was written and produced by Clinton and Bootsy Collins and was originally featured in live shows by Collins” live band. It was the perfect springboard for the Brides’ debut LP “Funk Or Walk”, which quickly climbed to the upper echelons of the R&B charts. All the songs on “Funk Or Walk” were written by P-Funk legends such as Bootsy Collins, Rodney Curtis, Bernie Worrell, Gary Shider and Clinton.
