Brooklyn-born pianistDuke Jordanwas on the front lines of the bebop revolution as a member of Charlie Parkers quintet in the late-1940s which also featured a young Miles Davis on trumpet. In 1960, Jordan recorded his sole Blue Note album as a leader,Flight To Jordan, an exemplar hard bop date featuring a top-shelf quintet withDizzy Reeceon trumpet,Stanley Turrentineon tenor saxophone,Reggie Workmanon bass, andArt Tayloron drums. The set presented six fine Jordan original compositions including the minor mode title track, the elegant ballad Starbrite, the church-inspired Deacon Joe, and the Latin-tinged Si-Joya.

Was brought Joe Harley, a.k.a. the Tone Poet, on board to curate and supervise a series of reissues from the Blue Note family of labels.
