Fire And Water was the record that established the band internationally, tightening the group’s blues-rock foundation into something leaner, tougher and more immediately distinctive. With Andy Fraser and Simon Kirke locking into a supple, hard-driving rhythm section, Paul Rodgers delivering one of the great rock vocal performances of the period, and Paul Kossoff bringing his unmistakable touch on guitar, the album remains a defining statement of British rock in the early 1970s. Best known for the enduring “All Right Now”, the album runs deeper than its signature single, balancing force and restraint across tracks such as the title cut, “Mr. Big” and “Heavy Load”.
