Funky Best, the legendary album by Japanese musicianJiro Inagaki, has just been re-released by the Cinedelic imprint. Originally released in 1975 the same year as the celebrated Funky Stuff album Funky Bestis still considered a milestone in Japanese jazz-funk today. The arrangements were created by Inagaki and the renowned pianist and composer Hiromasa Suzuki, another important figure in Japanese jazz. Supported by first-class session musicians, congas and backing vocals characterise the albums sound. On this album, they performed songs by Ripple, Quincy Jones, Commodores, Graham Central Station, B.T. Express, Kool & The Gang, Stevie Wonder, Sly & The Family Stone, Ohio Players, Billy Preston.
Jiro Inagaki, who passed away in January of this year at the age of 91, always experimented with different genres such as jazz, Eastern pop music, psychedelic funk and city pop, combining them into a unique fusion that shaped his career.This is thefirst reissue on vinylsince the original release.
