Featuring Scofield’s quartet with Joe Lovano on tenor saxophone, Marc Johnson on bass and Bill Stewart on drums, the album brings together technical control, rhythmic flexibility and a strong sense of interaction across an 11-piece programme of Scofield originals. What makes Meant To Be land so well is the balance between compositional detail and the freedom of the playing.
