LEE MORGAN City Lights (Blue Note Tone Poet Series 2026 limited edition 5-track LP pressed on 180-gram black vinyl. Originally recorded in August 1957 when Lee Morgan was still only 19, City Lights captures the trumpeter early inhis Blue Note run with a sextet comprising Curtis Fuller, George Coleman, Ray Bryant, Paul Chambers and Art Taylor. At the time, Morgan was also drawing attention through his work with the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, and this five-track set documents that early period with a line-up built around hard bop precision and strong ensemble playing. The album includes three compositions by Benny Golson – “City Lights”, “Tempo De Waltz” and “Just By Myself” – alongside “You’re Mine You” and Gigi Gryce’s “Kin Folks”. This Blue Note Tone Poet edition is presented in stereo, mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original master tape, plated and pressed at RTI on 180-gram vinyl, and housed in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket picture sleeve with original cover artwork and hype sticker, factory sealed.
