Sons Of Kemets third album is where they really hit their stride. A searing investigation into white patriarchy embodied in British Royal and political institutions, and the rampant, systemic racism they represent, it pulls no punches, with poet/rapper Joshua Idehen spitting incendiary bars on the lingering 21st century evils of colonialism and oppression. Theres a harder edge to the music than on previous releases, borrowing the urgency of grime and the expansiveness of dub reggae yet it remains as joyously upbeat as ever, packing in dancefloor grooves touching on soca, South African township jive and other African diasporic rhythms.
