Future Soul finds Tedeschi Trucks Band opening out their sound while keeping the musicianship and feel that define the group. Produced by Mike Elizondo, the album brings a different tonal palette to the band’s 12-piece line-up, with deeper rhythmic emphasis, broader arrangement detail and plenty of room for the horns, backing vocals and twin-lead character at the centre of the record. Songs including “Crazy Cryin’”, “I Got You”, “Who Am I” and the title track move between Southern soul, blues, gospel phrasing and full-band rock weight without losing cohesion. Susan Tedeschi’s voice remains central throughout, while Derek Trucks’ guitar work gives the record its shape and tension, whether in quieter reflective passages or heavier, riff-driven moments.
