• Sacramento’s psychobilly gremlins The Cramps built a cult on rockabilly ghosts, B-movie slime and punk delinquency. These early cuts catch Lux Interior yelping like a possessed jukebox while Poison Ivy’s guitar snarls through Alex Chilton’s gloriously grubby production. ‘Garbage Man’ staggers forward with grease on its boots. ‘Human Fly’ twitches and buzzes like something trapped under a lampshade. ‘New Kind Of Kick’ struts with crooked hips, while ‘TV Set’ rattles like a television about to explode. Even the covers arrive delightfully mangled, from the radioactive stomp of ‘Uranium Rock’ to the swampy creep of ‘Goo Goo Muck’.
