Horace Silver’s first tour of Japan in early 1962 left a deep impression on the pianist. As soon as he returned home, he began writing a series of pieces in which he attempted to combine “a Japanese feeling in the melodies with a Latin American feeling in the rhythms.” He dedicated the album “The Tokyo Blues,” recorded with his quintet in July of that year, to his ardent new fans in Japan.
Blue Note Tone Poet Edition: Stereo, produced by Joe Harley, completely analog remastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, RTI pressing (180g), sturdy tip-on gatefold sleeve, padded inner sleeve
